Firsts

The February 2007 issue of Oprah has a bunch of "firsts" that include a competitive eater’s first 11 pounds of cheesecake in 9 minutes (!), Donna Karan’s first job, and Colin Powell’s first day off.

To Oprah’s list, I’d like to add my first credit card purchase. I received my very first credit card in college and although I don’t remember for the life of me kind of card it was, I do remember walking into Carlisle’s Department Store in Erie, Pennsylvania and walking out with a string of fresh water pearls. My necklace cost $100.00, each pearl was uniquely shaped and I am still wearing it today.

Thanks to the beauty of credit, my daughter will wear this necklace one day too.
