Why Blogs Matter

I was lucky enough to attend the Minnesota Recruiters Conference #11 last Friday and I got to speak about something I thoroughly enjoy . . . blogging. The conversation was great and best of all, I had fun.

In hindsight, and considering the audience, I could have prepared more specific comments for the recruitment side of things but nonetheless, here's what I had to say:

Bottom line: blogs offer visibility, expertise through engagement, and connection and are a key part of any social media strategy.

Quick Shot: 5 Things I'd Do Differently In My HR Career

100% totally inspired from Laurie Ruettimann's presentation to HR students at SHRM '10, Learn From My (HR) Mistakes, here are five things I would do differently in my HR career:

Spend time as a recruiter sourcing, searching, and selling.

Be a small fish in a big pond for a few years to add big corporate HR to the toolkit.

Really, I mean really, understand the financial side of a business.

Spend as much time outside of HR as I spent in it.

Make more waves.

What about you? What would you do?
